Flower Special Day Cupcakes

By: Sheila Reynolds

I love making these flower cupcakes for special occasions. Whether they are for a special birthday, wedding event or any reason to add some creativity to a dessert, this recipe is sure to impress.

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tbs. whipping cream
  • Pinch of salt
  • Red gel food coloring
  • White cupcakes, cooled

  1. Whisk together the sugar and butter in a mixer on low speed for 8 minutes, until fluffy. Add the salt and whipping cream, whisking for another minute.
  2. Fold in the food coloring until you reach the desired shade of pink. For variation, divide the buttercream frosting into separate containers and color each one differently.
  3. Add the frosting to a piping bag and outfit with a round tip. Create a small mound in the center of the cupcake. With another bag, outfit the end with a 2D petal tip.
  4. Cock your hand away from you. With the tip of the bag against the mound, slowly pipe out frosting, pulling away from the mound and twisting your hand at the same time. Work your way around the mound to create each individual petal.
  5. Take the bag with the round tip and pipe another, smaller mound in the center to finish.
