Homemade Southern Cornbread Recipe

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour
ΒΌ cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1 lemon, juiced
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbs honey
8 tbs unsalted butter, melted
Rosemary, for garnish

1. Preheat oven to 425 and put a 9-inch cast iron pan inside the oven to preheat. Add lemon juice to whole milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
2. Mix the first five ingredients together. Whisk together the milk and lemon, eggs, and 7 tablespoons of the melted butter. Combine everything into one bowl, stirring until just combined.
3. Take the skillet out of the oven with a pot holder and reduce the heat to 375. Grease the skillet with the remaining butter along the bottom and sides. Pour the batter into the skillet and bake until a toothpick comes out clean in the center, about 25 minutes.
4. Cool for 15 minutes, garnish with rosemary, and serve directly from the pan.
