Southern Boiled Turnip Greens Recipe

2 bunches fresh turnip greens
1 lb. ham hocks, rinsed
4 cloves garlic, halved
1 tbs sugar

1. Add 8 cups of water to a heavy-bottom stock pan or Dutch oven and simmer the ham hocks for up to 2 hours, covered, until the meat is tender.
2. Chop the turnip greens and clean, drain, clean, and drain them again. Turnip greens are notoriously dirty, and the finished dish will be gritty if the greens aren’t thoroughly cleaned.
3. Add the greens, garlic and sugar to the pot and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about a half hour. Remove to a platter and serve.
